SUMMIT COUNTY, COLO – Maintaining relationships with loved ones and outside support networks is critical for the mental health, rehabilitation, and family ties of incarcerated people. The Summit County Sheriff’s Office is dedicated to supporting its inmates' relationships with loved ones while ensuring facility safety.

Lethal contraband entering detention facilities via inmate mail continues to be a national concern to which Summit County is not immune. The Summit County Detention Facility is working with New York-based public safety company LIAM Safe to address this issue.

LIAM Safe's system enables friends and family to send high-quality photos, letters, and greeting cards to incarcerated persons through an online portal. The messages are printed within the Summit County Detention Facility, eliminating the potential for contraband introduction and staff exposure to harmful substances.

Sheriff Jaime FitzSimons supports the new system, stating, "Maintaining connections with loved ones is key to an inmate's well-being while in our custody and their success upon release. This system makes those connections safer, more efficient, and more affordable."
