Application Process for Funding

The Colorado Underfunded Courthouse Facility Cash Fund has three million dollars ($3,000,000) available for the 2026 calendar year. This funding is crucial for enhancing the security of facilities housing state courts and probation offices.

Qualifying agencies are invited to apply for these funds from August 28, 2025, to Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at 5 p.m. An application link can be found on the Colorado Judicial website under Special Announcements.

Purpose of the Funding

The Colorado State Court Administrator's Office has been established to allocate state funds to counties. The goal is to enhance the security of facilities that contain a state court or probation office.

Eligible Uses of Court Security Funds

Court security funds may be used for one or more of the following areas:

  • Provision of court security staffing at a facility containing a state court or probate office.

  • Purchase of security equipment or related improvements for a facility.

  • Provision of court security training.

Only Colorado counties are eligible to apply for supplemental security funding in a facility housing a state court or probation office.

Importance of Court Security

Court security is vital for maintaining a safe environment for all individuals involved in the judicial process. This includes judges, court staff, and the public. Enhanced security measures help to prevent incidents that could disrupt court proceedings or endanger lives.

The Role of Security Staffing

Having trained security personnel on-site is essential. They ensure that the courthouse operates smoothly and safely. Security staff can respond quickly to any incidents, providing peace of mind to everyone present.

Investing in Security Equipment

Investing in modern security equipment is another critical aspect. This includes surveillance cameras, metal detectors, and other technologies that enhance safety. Such improvements can deter potential threats and provide valuable evidence in case of incidents.

Training for Court Security

Training is equally important. Security personnel must be well-prepared to handle various situations. Regular training sessions can equip them with the skills needed to manage emergencies effectively.
